FAMOUS FOR MY DINNER PARTIES ISSUE 004

Issue 004 is here and it is pink! Once again, the magazine takes food as cue to tell stories about culture and society, blending social commentary and bold visuals. All essays, interviews and stories circle around moments and movements of social and technological change that occurred in the last five centuries — in an attempt to make sense of our current moment. Issue 004 questions the concepts of progress that are at the root of what and how we eat today. With topics ranging from hippie food to Mildred Pierce and from gluttony to video games, the eclectic subject matter is reflected in the magazine’s graphic design.

FAMOUS FOR MY DINNER PARTIES ISSUE 003

famous for my dinner parties is back for issue 003! After the ‘best-of’ character of issue 001 and the mono-themed ‘food fad issue’ 002, number three is again somewhat more loosely conceived — less of a theme issue than a concept zine that aims to tap into certain elements of the zeitgeist. It consists of ten brand-new pieces in the form of essays, compilations of shorts, a still life series and even fiction — all circling around the anxieties of being alive in the world today and the way they reflect in what and how we eat. With pieces on chef culture, food diplomacy, paranoia about food safety, microwaves, internet urban legends and food crimes, the magazine’s graphic design takes cues from tabloid newspapers to fit the salaciousness and scandal-ridden character of its topics. Issue 003 is famous for my dinner parties’ signature blend of cultural criticism and bold, vibrant imagery at its best.

FAMOUS FOR MY DINNER PARTIES ISSUE 002 — RAGES! CRAZES! THE FOOD FAD ISSUE

Famous for my dinner parties issue 002 is small and cute, but it’s bigger than issue 001 in all the important ways: Coming in at 100 pages, it has more collaborators, more articles, more photos and illustrations. This time around, the issue centres around a single theme: the food fad. Because, whether we like it or not, food fads tell us a lot about who we are as people, about our cultures and societies, how we see others and what it is we want for ourselves. Famous for my dinner parties’ approach to cultural analysis with a fun and lighthearted touch is the perfect way to tackle food fads — because they are often as ridiculous as they are serious.

Created by Sandra Mayer-Myrtenhain, Yannic Moeken and Junshen Wu. Design by Lind Haugaard. Illustrations by Eilis Dart and Gemma Wilson, additional photography by Kenneth Lam. Text contributions by Celina Baljeet Basra, Aida Baghernejad, Anna Broujean, Jonas Borchers, Kavita Goodstar, Suyin Haynes, Alex Kil, Chris O’Leary and Sarmistha Pantham.

After three years online, the Berlin-based food culture magazine ‘famous for my dinner parties’ is going paper! For this first edition zine, the team selected their favourite stories, essays, fun facts and photo series of the last few years, and threw some new bits and bobs into the mix, too. It’s about fake news and futurism, fast food and food faux pas, food fights, furious foodies and the best film ever made. It’s about things that look good and things that taste good, and also about things that leave a bitter taste in one’s mouth.
